Round 4 of the CCC (China Circuit Championship) was held at Beijing's Goldenport International Circuit over the September 9th weekend. 2006 CCC champion Guo Haisheng, driving the Nissan Tiida from the Dongfeng NISSAN Ghiasports Team, got on the podium with a 3rd - place finish.
In the fiercely - contested 1600cc class, the #1 Nissan Tiida with Guo at the wheel, made a spectacular dash from the 2nd grid at the start to leap in front of his archrival in the #3 Volkswagen Polo. The #3 car then overtook Guo, resulting in the #1 machine dropping to 2nd.
The reigning champion subsequently spun out on lap 2 due to the very slippery track conditions, falling to 12th. However, the veteran did not give up, and he immediately started an impressive fightback, overtaking the #21 Kia Cerato along the way, before reaching 3rd on lap 13. Haisheng then chased after the #5 VW Polo for 2nd place, but his rival wasn't having any of it.
Guo thus took the chequered flag in 3rd place, enabling him to stand on the podium and take the bronze.
Lin Lifeng, driving the other Nissan Tiida (#2), started the main race from the 3rd spot on the grid.
He allowed the #21 Kia Cerato to go ahead on the opening lap, but shot up to 2nd place on lap 6. He then clung right onto the gearbox of the #3 VW Polo - which was at that point leading the race, to grab the chance of reversing his position and snatching the win. Unfortunately, he suffered problems with the drive system on lap 14 and had to return to the pits. Restarting was not an option, and the #2 machine was forced to retire.
China Circuit Championship (CCC)
The China Circuit Championship is a touring car series held in China. Nissan/NISMO is providing technical support to the Dongfeng Nissan Ghiasports Team, which has two TIIDAs entered in the 1600cc class. There is also a privateer Sunny (Bluebird) in the 2000cc class. This season's championship is comprised of 6 rounds, held at circuits in Zhuhai, Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu. The 1600cc class entry is limited to Mainland Chinese drivers in order to support young Chinese talent. With rules governing modifications being quite open, the series is considered worth contesting and has become one of the most popular categories in Chinese touring car racing.
