Nissan Motorsport made the perfect start to the 2008 Absa Off Road Car Championship when reigning national off road champion Duncan Vos and co-driver Ralph Pitchford won the Nissan Dealer 400 in the Darling area near Cape Town on Saturday in their Nissan Navara.
Second, after winning Friday's 65-km prologue that decided the start for Saturday's 330-km race, was 2006 champion Hannes Grobler and new co-driver Juan Mohr in the second factory Nissan Navara, who finished 36 seconds behind their team-mates.South Africa Nissan made 1-2 finish.
Grobler led for the first 100 km in dry and dusty conditions. At the end of the first of two 166-km loops that made up Saturday's route, when competitors made a compulsory 15-minute pit stop at the designated service point in Darling, Vos led Grobler by 33s. Vos was able to control the race from the front and was first overall and first in class SP under the Absa arch that marked the finish line in Darling.
Their combined race times saw Vos, Grobler and Thomas Rundle, who finished in 8th, give Nissan the manufacturers' prize for the day. Nissan, with four cars among the 12 finishers from 27 starters, leads the manufacturers' championship with 59 points.
