Medeiros Sets Record With 4th Victory In A Row
Cleanevent 100 Race Report
July 18, Nashville Superspeedway, Tenn.
Thiago Medeiros pulled a disappearing act in the Cleanevent 100 on July 17 at Nashville Superspeedway.

Medeiros, who started his fourth consecutive race from the pole, remained comfortably in front the entire race to post his fourth victory in a row - a record for both the Menards Infiniti Pro Series™ and the IRL IndyCar® Series. Mark Taylor (2003) in the Menards Infiniti Pro Series and Kenny Brack (1998) in the IndyCar Series had held the record for consecutive victories.

Medeiros also set the Menards Infiniti Pro Series record for consecutive race laps led (173 over three events) and victories from the pole. He set his sights high at the beginning of the season, his second in the Series, and hasn't wavered.

"The result (victories) was our goal when we started the season," said Medeiros, who received a painted Gibson guitar among his spoils. "We couldn't win Miami (second place), but we got two extra points for leading the most laps. After that, we had a great race in Phoenix, Indianapolis and Kansas. And it was a great weekend for us here."

Medeiros, who turns 22 on July 24, was quickest in the practice sessions preceding and following qualifying July 16. He gained additional experience when he participated in a one-day test at Nashville Superspeedway in June.

"The pole here was really a big advantage for us because it's a really hard track, really hard to overtake," he said. "Sometimes you have a lot of grip; sometimes not. It's really hard to keep the car behind somebody. If you have somebody behind you, the guy has to be much quicker than you to overtake you.

"We had a really good car here. I just think I did a good job; just drove the car around. The team gave me a great car all weekend."

The Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver was assisted by a series of caution periods. Runner-up Paul Dana, who started on the outside of the front row, was able to seriously challenge for the lead once -- briefly. After a restart on Lap 60, Dana took the high line in Turns 1 and 2. He ran alongside Medeiros' No. 11 entry coming out of Turn 2 before another yellow flag flew on Lap 63 when the No. 64 Team XBOX/Pollard Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone came to a stop on the backstretch.

"We had a lot of chances with the restarts," said Dana, who also finished second at Kansas Speedway on July 3. "That second-to-last restart, I had it right finally. I smelled it at least. Then it went yellow again."

After one lap of racing, a yellow stalled a potential run. When the race went green again on Lap 71, Medeiros got a good jump and cruised to the victory by 0.4605 of a second.

"I kind of bobbled the last restart, and that cost us," said Dana, who drove the No. 91 Ethanol/Hemelgarn Johnson entry. "At least we're keeping him honest. Hopefully, we'll get him here sooner or later. We've been really fast all year. "We have had our share of bad luck earlier in the season. Now I think we've got that behind us and we're running consistently."

Mason inherited third place when the No. 10 Roquin Motorsports entry driven by Rolando Quintanilla made contact with the inside wall on the backstretch on Lap 53.

"Coming in, I thought we might struggle a little bit because of our showing at Kansas (sixth), but we worked on it all weekend," said Mason, who tied his career-best finish. "We were slow in the beginning, but we worked away.

"Everybody's so close that it was kind of a toss-up between second (place) through fifth."

Billy Roe, in the No. 24 Team ISI entry, finished a season-best fourth and Al Unser was fifth in the No. 2 Western Union Speed Team entry.
