Ever since Nissan won the South Africa Total Rally with a Bluebird P310 in 1963,
it has continued motorsports activities in South Africa. In recent years, the
local works team has participated in the Class T (Super Truck) category of the
Off Road Championships with Nissan Hardbodies (the local name for Nissan pickups).
In 2004, Nissan Hardbodies won seven out of eight races, and in four of those
seven, Nissan took both first and second places. All three drivers of the Proudly
South African Nissan Team secured wins. Nissan, which had a magnificent season,
took the Manufacturers’ Title for four years in a row. Nissan also took
the Class T title for two years in a row. And Nissan Hardbodies secured the Class
D title for near-standard six-cylinder vehicles five times, decimating the opposition
in the hard-fought Class D category. Nissan has dominated in all areas — Overall
Production Vehicle, Manufacturers’ Title, Class T, and Class D, wrapping
up the 2004 season with unprecedented results.
In 2005, too, a total of eight races are planned for the wide veldts of South
Africa.
