China Touring Car Championship Round 2 Race Report
May 23rd, Zhuhai Circuit
At Round 2 of the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), held at the Zhuhai Circuit in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, China, new driver Xie Xinzhe, racing for DongFeng Nissan Ghia Sports in a Nissan Tiida, took 6th place.
DongFeng Nissan Ghia Sports, whose home ground is the Zhuhai Circuit, attended Round 2 of this year's CTCC having newly included Xie in the driver lineup alongside regulars Guo Haisheng and Lin Lifeng.
It was hot and muggy with a temperature of 30 degrees and an occasional drizzle on the day of the race. 19 machines were given the go-ahead to start the 1600cc class final. Guo's #1 Tiida started from 5th position, Xie's #4 Tiida from 6th. Lin, in the #2 Tiida, was unable to improve on his car's setup from the practice session and chased a higher rank after starting in 10th. On the second lap the #1 Tiida passed the #6 VW Polo for 4th, but was overtaken by the same car on lap five and returned to 5th place.
This time, the 2 Hyundai i30s which started in the lead, held off the others, leaving the #9 Polo, the #6 Haima 3 and the #1 and #4 Tiidas in a row, fighting over 3rd place. However, on lap seven the #1 Tiida came into contact with another vehicle and ran off track, falling to 12th place. After this the rookie, Xie, aggressively pursued the preceding cars, dodging the #6 Haima 3 on lap nine and rising to 3rd. However, the #4 Tiida was rear-ended by the #6 Haima 3 on lap twelve and fell back to 6th place. The race finished with the cars in this order.
Similarly on lap 12, Guo in the #1 Tiida skimmed over oil on the track and flew into the gravel bed, exiting the race. Lin, in the #2 Tiida, patiently endured and finished in 8th place.
