NISSAN Tiidas take 4th and 5th

China Touring Car Championship Round 3 Race Report

June 27th, Chengdu Circuit
The third round of the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) was held at the Chengdu Circuit in Chengdu City, Sichuan province, China. Competing for the DongFeng Nissan Ghia Sports Team, Guo Haisheng and Sun Zheng took 4th and 5th respectively, racing the Nissan Tiida in the 1600cc class.

Driving the Dongfeng Nissan Ghia Sports Team's third Nissan Tiida was Sun Zheng, a rookie driver who had made his CTCC debut at the opening round in Shanghai Tienma. This race would be his second competitive outing in the car.

This time of year is not generally a rainy period for Chengdu, but from the morning of race day rain reminiscent of Japan's rainy season was falling. In the race, the pole-sitting #6 Haima messed up the start. Starting from 4th, Guo and the #1 Tiida finished the first lap in 3rd place following the #10 and #9 VW Polo entries. Lin Lifeng and the #2 Tiida, starting from 13th after trouble in qualifying, entered the first corner in a tight bunch, collided with another car and was unable to avoid spinning out. He dropped all the way back to last place. Meanwhile, Sun in the #3 Tiida started from 8th and after the confusion of the opening lap returned to the home stretch in 10th.

At the outset, the #1 Tiida had been able to move up one position, but after that was caught by the #19 Yaris, and ultimately finished in 4th. Rookie Sun picked up his pace in order to make up for lost ground, and from the second lap onward raised his position by one place each lap. In the middle of the race he caught the #16 Hyundai to move up to 5th and finished the race behind his 4th-placed teammate Guo and the #1 Tiida. Lin who had been chasing the leaders from last place in the #2 Tiida finished in 12th.
