Nissan Tiidas Take 5th and 6th In Beijing City Race

- China Touring Car Championship Round 6 Race Report -

October 10th,
Beijing City Special Course

Round 6 of the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) was held on a special course made by closing the Beijing Olympics boat racing water park's sidewalks and surrounding public roads. Driving in the 1600cc class in a Nissan Tiida and having qualified in 3rd place, Dongfeng Nissan Ghia Sports Team rookie Sun Zheng took 5th place. His teammate Lin Lifeng followed him home in 6th.

The event was the debut of the Beijing City Special Course. Surrounded by concrete barriers and a steel fence, it was comprised of a narrow technical infield section and two high-speed straights connected by a high-speed chicane. Due to the narrow width of the course, the race began with a 3-lap moving formation lead by the Safety Car, followed by a rolling start. Having started 3rd on the grid, Sun Zheng improved his time with every lap, and by lap 7, had an opportunity to overtake the car he was trailing, the #9 VW Polo. However, after the two continued to vie for the second spot, on the 10th lap Sunfs car was rear-ended, sending him into a half-spin, allowing a pair of cars to overtake him. Afterwards, he desperately pushed to regain position, but his machine, lacking balance, again went into a spin, and he fell to 6th place. However, after the race, the car that rear-ended and overtook Sun was penalized. Sun's #3 Tiida thus rose to 5th place, and he achieved another high-raking result after the previous round at Ordos.

The #1 Tiida of Guo Haisheng started in 8th place, but on lap 10 the car hit the tyre barrier, forcing him to retire. Meanwhile, the #2 Tiida of Lin Lifeng, having qualified to start in 9th place, endured fierce competition from the cars behind, and finished in 6th place.
