NORTON NISSAN DUO TAKES DOUBLE TOP 10 RESULT AT WINTON

V8 Supercars Championship Race Report -Winton 400

Winton, Australia (April 4-6, 2014) - Norton Nissan drivers Michael Caruso and James Moffat have finished the Winton V8 Supercars event with a double top 10 result.

Caruso and Moffat finished 8th and 9th respectively, ensuring them valuable championship points after a tremulous day yesterday.

The results have elevated Caruso up to 14th in the championship, one point and one place ahead of Moffat.

Todd Kelly jumped up the most spots during the race, relative to qualifying positions, and stormed from 23rd to finish 13th, just one place ahead of his brother Rick.

Rick started seventh but was forced to comeback through the field after being slapped with a drive through penalty for speeding in pit lane. While the former Bathurst winner was adamant that he did not break the rules, he took the penalty on the chin and fought from the rear to finish 14th.

The next event on the V8 Supercars Championship takes Nissan Motorsport across the Tasman to New Zealand for the ITM 500 at Pukekohe Park Raceway in three weeks time.

DRIVER QUOTES

Michael Caruso, #36 Norton Nissan Altima
“It was good to move up from 14th in qualifying, but while it was nice to bag some good points, we're having some real set-up issues, and that's hurting us. We saw these balance issues at Symmons Plains and we've seen them here again. We need to get some work down before New Zealand. Last year here at Winton, we were first and second, and this year, we've dropped back, so I think it shows how much everyone else is improving.”

James Moffat, #360 Norton Nissan Altima
“I'm a bit surprised that we ended up in the top 10. We struggled in the first stint of the race, but our competitiveness really improved in the final two stints. We benefited from a few people having dramas, but the important thing is that you're there to capitalize on those errors. We had a clean run in the race, but you can see in the results how much our competition has moved forward. I feel we have a lot of work to do, but we have a smart bunch of people at Nissan Motorsport to be able to work our way through our issues.”

Rick Kelly, #15 Jack Daniel's Nissan Altima
“I'm so proud of the team today, we did a really good job overnight of rectifying the handling issues from yesterday, both for qualifying and for the race. In the race I was just really looking after the tires and just really being cautious to not do anything wrong. So promising pace, but really disappointing how the whole weekend played out as far as the sport's concerned from a judicial standpoint.”

Todd Kelly, #7 Jack Daniel's Nissan Altima
“We had a hard qualifying this morning, it's not ideal to start back in 23rd position around this place because as it is so hard to pass. We had a good think about it and changed setups for the race, and it was a good improvement to the car. It felt half alright for a change to be able to pass some guys instead of just getting stuck behind them. We definitely improved the car, and it's given us a bit of info to take away, and hopefully not make the same mistakes next time.”
