The China Touring Car Championship, known until 2008 as the CCC (China Circuit Championship), has now been renamed. For the benefit of the development of Chinese drivers, only drivers from the Chinese mainland (not including Hong Kong or Taiwan) can now compete in the 1600cc class, in which 2 Nissan Tiidas are entered. In order to increase the standard of the series, the type of vehicles allowed to compete has been revised with strict new limitations such as the need for the engine and suspension to be essentially the same as that used in production cars. When the abilities of cars are similar, the potential of any given car becomes a much more important factor. However, the abilities of the team, drivers and mechanics of course have the greatest effect on whether a race is won or lost.
In 2009, the competition rotated between four circuits: Beijing, Shanghai F1, Shanghai Tianma and Guangdong. In mid-May, the first race took place on the Shanghai F1 circuit in a season comprising six races, the last being at Guangdong in November.
The Nissan Tiida claimed the championship title in its debut year 2006, and went on to win the series again in 2008.
Now in its 4th year, the Tiida aims to surpass the increasing strength of its rivals and challenge for its third championship title.
