China Touring Car Championship

    The fourth round of the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) continued at the same venue as Round 3, Chengdu Circuit in Sichuan province. The third Tiida of the Dongfeng Nissan Ghia Sports Team was driven by the teenager Xie Xinzhe who took 6th place on his debut in the second round of the series.

    On qualifying day the ambient temperature was 33degreeAwith the track temperature measured at 40degree. In the #1 Tiida, Guo Haisheng was quick and set the top time early on. The other cars were each recording their own best times, but had to return to the pits due to cooling issues, both of the tyres and the cars themselves. At the end of qualifying Guo could not match the top times and secured 4th on the grid.

    Lin Lifeng attacked at pace in the early part of qualifying, but also had to pit because of cooling issues. After that he continued to drive hard and turned in his best time, ending up 14th on the grid. Xie finished qualifying in 9th place.

    There have been many wet days for the championship races in this year's CTCC. Again this time, rain fell after the warm up, and the entire track surface was wet. Light rain was still falling when the championshipfs 4th round got underway.

    Guo, starting 4th on the grid, maintained his position through the first corner. As he went into the second corner, the Polo on his inside cut in front of him and he fell back to 8th place. On the other hand, Xie, starting in 9th place, avoided the chaos and at the end of the first lap had maintained his position.

    Entering the straight on the 2nd lap, Guo, along with Xie in the second Tiida, were in a group of 5 cars lined up across the track. Guo, next to his teammate Xie, was clipped by one of the Polo entries and sent into a spin. The front end of Guo's and Xie's cars touched as he slid across the track.

    As a result of this mayhem, Guo dropped to 11th place and Xie fell to 10th.

    After this the two damaged cars began their pursuit. By the end of the race, Guo had recovered to 8th place, while Xie made it up to 9th position.

    Lin Lifeng, starting from 14th on the grid, was rear-ended by a Fit at turn 5 right after the start and spun out. He slumped to the tail of the field. After that he stuck to his race and completed the 18 laps, finishing in 14th place as the chequered flag fell.

    The next round of the CTCC is scheduled for the newly established Ordos International Circuit in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. The aim is to be the first championship winners at the newly built circuit.
