*The 2009 season
From 2008 when the Japanese Formula 3 championship reached its 30-year mark, the National class (N class), which used old chassis and the Toyota 3S-GE engine, was newly established. The chassis are mainly from the Italian manufacturer Dallara, with the engine input restricted through the use of a 26mm air restrictor. Tyres are Hankook one-make units. Compared to the Champion class (C class), competitors could enter for a lower cost, which in turn gathered participants in addition to the C class, making for heated battles in 2009.
