Formula Challenge Japan is a category that resides between F3 and entry-level formula-car racing. It was established in 2006 with the objective of discovering and educating future world-class drivers and to expand the perspective of the Japanese motorsports industry. Entrants under the age of 26 years are prioritized, as education is the key concept of the category.
In 2010, 6 rounds comprising 12 races (2 races per round) will be held, the first on the Friday of race week(occasionally held on the Thursday, depending on the event), with the second race held after a one-day interval. Improvements in drivers’ skills will be measured.
Nissan trains four drivers, selected via auditions through the Nissan Driver Development Program (NDDP).
A major premise is to base the competition on driver skill; and for this reason, the cars are all identical. During the season, drivers also shuffle between cars. Camber, toe, and of course wing angle, changing of springs, damper height adjustment or attenuation is not allowed (air pressure in the tyres can be adjusted according to driver preference).
