The final stage of the GT1 World Championship was held at the San Luis circuit, located 800km west of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, South America. The time difference is 12 hours from Japan, and 4 hours from Europe.

San Luis is known as a winter resort for Europeans, with natural beauty and excellent early summer weather. The green of the surrounding mountains and the blue of the trackside lakes provides refreshing scenery.

The SUMO POWER GT team were running in fourth place in the championship, however as second place would be possible depending on the outcome of this race, they were aiming for a points finish. Great things were expected of the #23 NISSAN GT-R pairing of Michael Krumm and Peter Dumbreck.

As the last event in the debut season of the GT1 World Championship grew closer, all 24 drivers from the 12 teams gathered for a commemorative photograph. For the drivers it felt like the end of a journey, having been together since the start in Abu Dhabi, around Europe, and on to the final two events in South America.

The good weather continued until Friday, with the powerful sun blazing down on the circuit, but on the qualifying day, Saturday, dark clouds hung in the sky, threatening rain at any moment.

Until now the Swiss Racing Team have set fast lap times in both qualifying and the races, but have not been blessed with points from race results. They will be doing their best to finish the season with points in the final round.

As the practice session came to a close on Saturday, there was a sudden downpour of rain and hail forcing the length of the pre-qualifying session to be shortened. The sudden rain also washed dust onto the track, causing problems with the road surface. However, by the start of qualifying the weather had completely cleared up.

Apart from gearbox trouble during qualifying, The SUMO POWER GT duo of Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes also had problems with uncertainty under braking, and were not able to advance to the second part of the knockout qualifying session.

The highest qualifying Nissan GT-R was the #23 GT-R of Krumm and Dumbreck. They qualified in eighth place, but due to a penalty given to a car higher up the grid, were able to start the Qualifying Race in seventh place.

With the return of the good weather, the Qualifying Race was held on the morning of the final day, Sunday. Dumbreck managed to reach third position in the #23 GT-R, but lost time after slipping on dust on the track, and reached the chequered flag in a commendable sixth place.

The #4 GT-R of Seiji Ara, the only Japanese driver in this final race, was forced to skip the Qualifying Race while the car's engine was being changed, and went on to start the Championship Race from the back.

Karl Wendlinger and Henri Moser in the #3 GT-R produced their best result of the season, starting the Championship Race from seventh on the grid, and were very positive going into the race.

Ara started the Championship Race from the back in the #4 car, but managed to reach 19th place by the pit stop. Max Nilsson took charge during the final half, and made up several places to finish the last race of the season in 13th place.

Dumbreck made a smooth start from fifth place, but spun on lap seven in the battle for fourth position, and the #23 GT-R slipped down the order. Krumm took over, but damaged the power steering after making contact with other cars in the mid-field battle, and was forced to retire.

Wendlinger started the race in the much-anticipated #3 GT-R, but entered the pits in 14th place after grip problems on the rough road surface. Moser took the wheel for the second half, and battled with the higher placed Aston Martin, however he spun out and was forced to retire.
