The 6th round of the FIA GT1 World Championship was held at the Nurburgring, located in the western part of Germany. During the practice sessions held on Friday, August 27th, the weather was not only uncommonly cold for August, but also unstable as rain came and went.

The GT1 event was held on the Grand Prix Circuit of the Nurburgring, which also features the 20km "old" course called the "Nordschleife" (north loop) where tests are carried out on mass-production vehicles. Nissan GT-R tests are also carried out there.

The Swiss Racing Team had been unable to demonstrate a solid performance up to this point, but this Friday driver Karl Wendlinger in the #3 Nissan GT-R set a good pace.

Due to intermittently violent rainfall, the track at the Nurburgring often resembled a river, all thanks to its natural surroundings and features. Setting the cars up as originally planned was no longer possible. Krumm gazed at the movement of the clouds from his motorhome.

Of course, the idea that the Championship Race would be a wet one was something that had been considered, and the team, realizing they would need to set the cars up for rain tyres, busied itself with preparations.

As part of the FIA Traffic Safety campaign, all drivers taking part in the race signed their names on the body of the Nissan GT-R Safety Car. FIA President Jean Todt also dropped into the paddock to add his name to the car as well.

As the race approached, the GT-R team finally got a grasp on its preparations, and although the Swiss Racing Team carried a cheerful air, the continued precipitation started to put a damper on things. "We're heading into the race with the expectation that we will be driving on a dry track," said Ara.

Wendlinger, who started the race in the #3 Nissan GT-R, returned to the pit in 9th place. Moser took over, and upon returning to the track found that the rain was really starting to come down, but as the team had anticipated a break in the weather, they had decided to adopt the strategy of continuing on slick tyres. However, the precipitation continued to fall, and Moser dropped to 14th place.

The Krumm/Dumbreck #23 GT-R started the Qualifying Race from 7th on the grid. After being pushed off track at the first corner on the opening lap when a flood of cars fought for the same piece of real estate, the machine spun and was collected by one of the cars further back, receiving enough damage for it to retire in the pits.

Krumm was very enthusiastic and wanted to "put on a good show" in his native Germany, but with the unfortunate result in the Qualifiying Race, they would be starting the Championship Race from the 20th place.

Behind the Nurburgring Grandstand, newly constructed in 2009, there is a permanent NISSAN showroom. Models such as the R35 NISSAN GT-R and 370Z were on display, and many race fans peered in excitedly.

The Championship Race started under cloudy skies, and though there was some drizzle falling midway through, conditions were dry throughout. In the #3 GT-R Wendlinger began from 14th and moved up to 8th. He switched with Moser who went on to finish in 10th, netting the pair their first points since Brno.

The #22 GT-R began the main race from 16th, its result in the Qualifying Race. Hughes was first out and had a good run, and after some quick pit work switched over to Campbell-Walter who finished in the highest position among the GT-R entries with 8th, netting the team four championship points.

In the #4 GT-R Nilsson suffered a loss of power while driving, and the pair finished in 21st. Ara: "We weren't able to have a good race this time due to the conditions, but our teammates' machines were in good shape, so we'll produce a good result in the next race."

The #23 GT-R applied some pressure from last place, but was pushed by other cars and lost time. The pair finished the race in 15th. Krumm commented, "if you don't start qualifying from the front then you're going to have difficulties, first in the Qualifying Race and then in the Championship Race. Next time I want to get a good position in qualifying."
