The 8th and final round of SUPER GT was held from October 23rd-24th on the road course at Twin Ring Motegi for a 250km event. The Nissan GT-R entries were rebuilt to be able to handle Motegi's tight corners and hard braking with revisions to the cars' front lip and rear diffuser. Under the regulations, the cars received no weight handicap for this round.

Driving the #12 CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R, Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli were shooting for a come-from-behind result from their 5th place in the series' rankings. During official practice on the morning of the 23rd, the pair drove well, netting 5th position. They further raised expectations by placing 5th in the first qualifying session.

Setting their sights on the championship title from 6th place in the series' rankings were Benoit Treluyer and Satoshi Motoyama in the #23 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R. They placed 8th in the practice session and 11th in the first qualifier. As the afternoon's knockout qualifying approached, they prepared by making fine-tuning adjustments.

Ranked 10th in the series, Joao Paolo de Oliveira and Hironobu Yasuda were 6th in the official practice session and 7th in first qualifying in their #24 HIS ADVAN KONDO GT-R. After their victory in the first race of the season, they haven't made it near the podium again. Hopefully they would show us some will power in this final round of the season.

Session 1 (S1) of the knockout qualifying saw Matsuda steer his #12 GT-R into 8th place before moving on to the S2. Quintarelli was then able to breakthrough to 7th place in S2. Matsuda was back in the car for S3 and finished in 4th place, separated from the top position by a mere 0.135 seconds.

In the #24 GT-R, Oliveira grabbed 7th in the knockout-style qualifying S1 while Yasuda placed 6th in S2, enabling them to move on to S3. Oliveira again attacked in S3 and placed 7th.

Treluyer took to the track in his #23 GT-R for S1. He finished in 10th place setting up an S2 appearance. Motoyama then drove to a 9th-place finish in S2. They were unable to advance further into S3 and secured 9th spot on the starting grid.

Race day the 24th was cloudy from the morning. Both the ambient and track temperature were a bit cooler than the day before. The free practice session starting from 8:30am saw the #23 GT-R take 3rd place. The #12 GT-R was 10th and the #24 GT-R 13th. It has to be said that these runs were on tyres used for countless laps the previous day.

The formation lap started at 2:00pm on the dot. Then at 2:04 the signal turned green and the 53-lap race began under cloudy conditions with an ambient temperature of 19°C and the track measured at 20°C. At 250km, this race is shorter than usual and a battle even more fierce than normal was expected to develop.

Matusda was the start driver of the 4th-place qualifying #12 GT-R. However he dropped back a position on the opening lap and then at the 3rd corner of lap 11 became tangled up with a GT300 machine. The gap closed until he was passed by the #23 GT-R and fell to 5th place. Since passing is so difficult at Motegi, he took an early pit stop on the 19th lap.

Treluyer, starting from his qualifying position of 9th in the #23 GT-R, continuously moved up the ranks and was in 4th place by lap 11. What's more, he temporarily took the top spot as other cars made their pit stops on laps 26 and 27. He then made his stop on lap 28.

Oliveira took the start in the #24 GT-R from a qualifying position of 7th. He made some contact with other cars and briefly dropped to 10th for a number of laps, but was able to blast up into the lead as other cars made their stops between laps 28 and 34. The GT500 machine was the last car to make its stop, finally doing so on the 35th lap.

The #24 GT-R shaved time in its pit stop by adopting a strategy of foregoing a tyre change. Yasuda took up the baton in 7th place, but the tyres had already lost their ability to grip the road and he was unable to pick up the pace. However, he was still able to hold onto 10th place to the chequered flag.

The #23 GT-R made a quick return to the track after some nimble work in the pit. Motoyama moved up to 6th place but had a tough race and complained of severe understeer. He was passed by two cars on the 48th lap and finished the race in 8th place. The car ended up 7th in the series.

Quintarelli took over in the #12 GT-R but his tyres failed to warm up and at his first corner after returning to the track, he unbelievably ran off course. The #100 HSV closed in during the final stages of the race, but the GT-R made a strong finish in 5th. The team's 5th place series' ranking was defended as well.
