Cars participating in S-Tai follow rules based on N1 regulations, which have been established by JAF vehicle regulations. Therefore as a general rule, modifications to engines are not permitted. Suspension's modifications from original design modifications are also absolutely not permitted. In other words, the natural performance of the vehicle will determine victory or defeat. Furthermore, all cars are required to be fitted with catalytic exhaust purifiers.
First participated in the series in 2009. Although the car's 3.7-liter VQ37VHR V6 engine has a displacement of over 3,500cc, exceeding regulations for the ST3 Class, participation is allowed as the minimum weight of the car is 1,320kg. Furthermore, the Fairlady Z (Z33) fitted with the VQ35DE engine (3.5 liters) has a minimum weight of 1,180kg and thus is also allowed to participate in the ST-3 Class.
First used in the newly established GT3 Class in the 3rd round in 2012, the NISSAN GT-R NISMO GT3 is built to comply with GT3 regulations as determined by the FIA. It has the same specs as the vehicles participating in categories such as the GT300 Class in SUPER GT, the Blancpain Endurance Series held in Europe, and the FIA GT Series.
